firefly™ is proud to be supporting Marathon Man UK, Robert Young, who is aiming to run at least a marathon a day for a whole year!
Describing himself as ‘an amateur plodder trying to run’ Robert has set himself a phenomenal challenge by attempting to run over 367 marathons in 365 days – a World Record!
Robert was inspired by the fundraising stories he heard whilst watching the London Marathon in April 2014. But, unlike most people who train for months, maybe even years to prepare for their first marathon and made more determined by the fact that his fiancé said he couldn’t run a marathon, he set out the next day to run his first marathon!
Since that first day Robert has run at least one marathon a day in a kilt and transformed his inspiration in to a fundraising and world record attempt! At time of writing Robert had completed his 138th marathon in 127 days!
Robert is running for three children’s charities close to his heart, NSPCC, GOSH and Dreams Come True, who all help to give vulnerable children a better chance in life. Robert says: “My early years were difficult and painful, full of experiences I survived rather than lived. Nobody deserves to have a childhood like I had. It is my hope that by sharing my story I may inspire others with similar experiences and help them move on.”
firefly™ was introduced to Robert by Richmond Physiotherapy, and as soon as we heard about his challenge we wanted to help. We are delighted to be supporting Robert through this epic challenge by providing firefly™ devices to help him recover between marathons.
