Endurance athlete Sebastien Sasseville recently reached the 5000km milestone in his run across Canada to raise awareness of Type 1 Diabetes.
Sebastien, a six time Ironman and the first type 1 diabetic to climb Mount Everest, began his outrun diabetes campaign on 2nd February 2014. He is running solo across Canada from coast to coast, covering a total of 7,500km - the equivalent of 180 marathons, in 9 months.
On track, he recently reached the 5,000km mark, and aims to reach Vancouver on 14th November for World Diabetes Day. Sebastien has taken on this challenge to inspire people to live their lives to the fullest, regardless of the challenges they face “Outrun diabetes aims to raise awareness about the condition, as well as to inspire, educate and empower people living with diabetes, and to convince them that they can pursue their dreams."
The run involves 5 back-to-back marathons per week! To manage his recovery, Sebastien is relying on the firefly™ devices to help him get back out there each day “firefly™ has played a key role in allowing me to rebuild quicker, train harder and get back on the road each day. The first time I used firefly™ was 2 weeks into my journey and I was not able to have an ice bath or use my recovery boots. I used only the firefly™ device and I felt just as good the next day. The firefly™ is an essential part of my recovery, it makes a huge difference.”
We wish Sebastien the best of luck with the last leg of his challenge.
